M6 Traffic Jam

I’ve been struggling to come to terms with my return to the UK after almost 2 weeks in he South of France. Admittedly the South of France has the edge on Britain in terms of weather, but it’s not wholly the change in the weather that has affected my mood. I think it’s the way that most of us - in the grand scheme of things - are forced to live our lives. My commute on the M6 motorway on a good day takes around an hour in the morning and around and hour in the evening. Because of the roadworks that’s now an hour and a half either way.

Because I work for myself I can stagger my journey to avoid the worst of it in the morning, but I still spend two and a half stressful, pointless hours a day in the car. That’s around 550 hours a year, equivalent to almost 23 whole days! What a system that is, it demeans a life. There has to be a better way to live and I want to live it.  My journey toward that goal has already begun.
